Ganache Chocolate

245 Collins St, Melbourne 3000
Date visited: 27th July 2012

We stopped by Ganache Chocolate on this dreary, cold afternoon to get some dessert on the way home.

Pretty window display
The interior is gorgeous, filled with dark wood furniture, wooden floors and warm lighting.  Very cosy - looked like a nice place to sit and have a hot drink on a cold wintry day.

The display behind the counter reminded me of Christmas.

Cakes
Macarons
MerlinFan and I chose two cakes to go.

Pear caramel slice
The pear caramel slice I loved.  Rich, silky smooth caramel mousse on top of a sponge base.  There were even chunks of soft pear in between the two layers.
Raspberry chocolate mousse
The flavour of the chocolate mousse was rich and not too sweet; it went well with the tangy raspberry on top.  However, for me the consistency of the mousse was too light and fluffy, and half of it came off as I peeled the plastic wrapper away from around the sides.  Remember, we got our cakes as takeaway but it was cold outside, so I don't think I can truly blame the weather.

Overall lovely flavours but the mousse a tad bit soft for our liking.  That's just personal preference, though.  Not sure if the mousse had melted or it was meant to be of that consistency, but dining in might be the better option.
