Tank has been one of our favourite fish and chipperies since it opened not so long ago. The whitewashed benches outside and the blue-and-white with tile theme inside is very nautical and Santorini-Greece inspired.
As with many new cafes and restaurants that pop up, you give it a go and what d'you know, you like the food. You come back every now and then, and after a while, after the place gets more popular, gets more patrons, you realise the inevitable has happened. The portions begin to get smaller and smaller.
We usually have the Old School Catch of the Day, which is market fresh fish beer battered with chips, fresh lemon and tartare sauce.
At first it was the chips. And then it was the fish itself. Don't get me wrong. The chips are still better than your average fish-and-chips shop, although the seasoning and tanginess wasn't quite as strong as the last time we were there, months ago. The portion of chips was huge the first time we came here last year, but now is half the amount. The fish is still fantastic, perfectly cooked and juicy with great batter, but the strips seem to get thinner and thinner, now reduced to literally a ribbon (or fish finger, as another reviewer has accurately pointed out LOL). For $9.90, it is a small portion. They are, however, still generous with the tartare sauce, and they have a really good tartare sauce.
Old school catch of the day (Don't compare the size of the fish with the hand and the Schweppes in the background please, Frodo and Gandalf LOTR dwarfing-gianting special effect in play) |
