Cacao Fine Chocolates and Patisserie

Ground level, Melbourne GPO, Melbourne
Date visited: 21st May 2012

I'd seen the beautifully coloured macarons at the GPO Cacao branch and wanted to try them for some time now.
We stopped by this afternoon and got ourselves two small boxes of four for $9.95 each.

We just had to get two of the Sumire (violet & cassis), which was Melbourne's Best Macaron in 2010.
From top left:  Violet & cassis, Strawberries & cream, Pistachio, Dark chocolate
Passionfruit, French vanilla, Peanut butter and chocolate, Violet & cassis
Appearance-wise, each macaron shell was not completely uniform in size and shape.  I couldn't build a twin macaron tower with them XP
Verdict:
All the macarons were lovely, with the shells being more crumbly and the inside chewier in comparison to La Belle Miette's.

My favourite was the pistachio, with distinct nutty tones and specks of pistachio praline on top.  The chocolate macaron was like a chocolate brownie with chocolate ganache inside =D.  Although the Sumire was the award winner of best macaron, I'm going to be honest and say I prefer the Violet and blueberry at La Belle Miette.
