Waffee Waffles + Coffee Emporium

Where did the week go?  A bittersweet moment - last day of annual leave.  Need to drown sorrows (again) in some indulgent dessert.  After lunch at Pho Nom (again) MerlinFan and I popped just next door to the new Waffee Waffles + Coffee, the new gourmet waffle store in Emporium.

Waffee offers handcrafted Belgian Waffles which are baked freshly daily and on demand.  According to their Facebook page, their waffles come from an age old family secret recipe from a waffle master.  The shop has some tables to eat in, as well as waffles for takeaway.  Flavours on offer include Original Belgian Liege waffles and assorted flavours like Chocolate glazed (white and milk), Chocolate stick (chocolate sticks in the waffle!), Blueberry, Spicy Cinnamon and the deluxe - Raspberry white chocolate.  The shop has some tables to eat in, as well as waffles for takeaway.  There were actual waffles in a glass display at the counter but there were too many people queueing up and I didn't want to look like a perve taking photos of people's butts.

They also offer gourmet savoury and dessert waffles.

They're cash only at this stage.  Staff were friendly and service was speedy.  

I got a Cappuccino which was rather bitter and a bit too much on the milky side.

MerlinFan and I decided to share one of the dessert waffles.  We went for the Gone Bananas.

Liege waffles traditionally contain pearl sugar which caramelises as the waffles are baked, giving it that beautiful glistening sweet coating.  These waffles were crisp on the outside and dense and slightly chewy on the inside - yum.  With fantastic bruleed bananas (yes, it had a delicate layer of caramel that cracked as you sliced into the banana) and tangy rhubarb ice cream, it was a match made in waffle heaven. 

Waffee waffles are perfect for a sweet afternoon treat - would love to return and try their other chocolate glazed and chocolate stick waffles.
