Chokolait

Hidden away inside the intriguing Royal Arcade, following the chocolate fumes down a little passageway and down a few stairs into the Hub Arcade, you find yourself at a little chocolate shop by the name of Chokolait.  I had been wanting to try their signature Chokolait Pavlova that everyone has been raving about for a while now, so MerlinFan and I came here on a dreary autumn afternoon in search for a sweet treat.

The shop was smaller than I had imagined - you can probably find a table inside if you're lucky.  I sat outside in the middle of a narrow corridor, so unfortunately I couldn't comment much on the ambiance of the interior.

No trip to a chocolate salon would be the same without trying the hot chocolate, so I had myself a mocha hot (milk) chocolate.  The mocha hot chocolate was like a full meal in itself.  Seriously rich and sweet, with layers of creamy milk chocolate and undertones of coffee.  It was very thick, almost like chocolate soup - although I enjoyed it, the sweetness and thickness may not be for everyone.

And now for the much anticipated Chocolate pavlova.  I was a bit alarmed when I saw the enormous size of the slice, laden with succulent strawberries, double cream and melted chocolate, because I always think of pavs as being extremely sweet and thought for sure I wasn't going to be able to finish.  I was quite pleasantly surprised by my first bite - the pav wasn't that sweet at all and there were the crunchy, melty dark chocolate chunks interspersed in all that airy fluffiness.  Halfway through my pav, the inevitable happened... it collapsed under the weight of the large amount of strawberries.  LOL.

Gorgeous!
MerlinFan had the warm chocolate mud cake with double cream and chocolate drizzle.  After tasting my rich hot chocolate, she stated she was a bit disappointed that her mud cake did not seem quite as chocolatey.  The mud cake itself was moist, dense and had a bit of crisp crunchiness around the edges :)

The good thing about not-overly-sweet desserts is that you can tuck away a lot more of it - needless to say, MerlinFan and I finished every bite of our chocolatey, decadent creations.
